  • “We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.” Anais Nin

  • "Amongst all other elements, we are made up of mixed metaphor." ~ Iuventus P Goodbottom
If I were dead, could I do this?
  • "Well, why do we dream in metaphors?
Try to hold on to something
    We couldn't understand
    Couldn't understand

Tell me why must we argue loudly?
When peace is our one salvation
    I couldn't understand
    Couldn't understand, yeah"

I preferred her other work 'Delta of Venus'
She was commissioned, along with others, including Henry Miller and the poet George Barker, by a client known only as 'The Collector' to write private erotic fiction for his private consumption.
In her Diary (Oct 1941), she jokingly referred to herself as "the madam
of this snobbish literary house of prostitution, from which vulgarity
    was excluded".

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ.
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit.
Shall lure it back to cancal half a line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
  • Some quotes from Delta of Venus:

“Only the united beat of sex and heart together can create ecstasy."

“He was now in that state of fire that she loved. She wanted to be burnt.”

“When she closed her eyes she felt he had many hands, which touched her
everywhere, and many mouths, which passed so swiftly over her, and with a
wolflike sharpness, his teeth sank into her fleshiest parts. Naked now,
he lay his full length over her. She enjoyed his weight on her, enjoyed
being crushed under his body. She wanted him soldered to her, from
mouth to feet. Shivers passed through her body.”
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ.
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit.
Shall lure it back to cancal half a line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
  • I was quite obsessed with her writing as a teenager- I still have my old worn copy of Delta of Venus. I even read her diaries. By mere chance I actually met a friend of hers..he gave me great insight into who she was. My favorite chapter is Elena. Instead of copying it- here's a link http://revolt-rachel.livejournal.com/10844.html (that way it won't take up tons of space on here)

I agree PG. A book I have read; like you an old worn paperback copy, although some years ago. I probably read it at the time because it had Erotica in the title but it is cracking literature!

  • It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes
    You're paralysed

  • One pill makes you larger
And one pill makes you small
And the ones that mother gives you
    Don't do anything at all
Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall

And if you go chasing rabbits
And you know you're going to fall
Tell 'em a hookah smoking caterpillar
    Has given you the call
To call Alice, when she was just small

When the men on the chessboard.
Get up and tell you where to go
And you've just had some kind of mushroom
And your mind is moving low
Go ask Alice, I think she'll know

When logic and proportion have fallen sloppy dead
And the white knight is talking backwards
And the red queen's off with her head
Remember what the door mouse said
    Feed your head,
    Feed your head

  • Feel like putting some inspirational/emotional stuff on-

“If you want to forget something or someone, never hate it, or never hate him/her. Everything and everyone that you hate is engraved upon your heart; if you want to let go of something, if you want to forget, you cannot hate.”

“We have to allow ourselves to be loved by the people who really love us, the people who really matter. Too much of the time, we are blinded by our own pursuits of people to love us, people that don't even matter, while all that time we waste and the people who do love us have to stand on the sidewalk and watch us beg in the streets! It's time to put an end to this. It's time for us to let ourselves be loved.”

“You can be the most beautiful person in the world and everybody sees light and rainbows when they look at you, but if you yourself don't know it, all of that doesn't even matter. Every second that you spend on doubting your worth, every moment that you use to criticize yourself; is a second of your life wasted, is a moment of your life thrown away. It's not like you have forever, so don't waste any of your seconds, don't throw even one of your moments away.”

“There is some kind of a sweet innocence in being human- in not having to be just happy or just sad- in the nature of being able to be both broken and whole, at the same time.”

  • A quote from the 1960s keeps returning to me:

    You know it makes sense

It was an election slogan, probably for the Tories.  Finding myself (like everyone else) swimming (or drowning) in an ocean of nonsense, the words often run through my mind.
  • I will think deeper about literature but can I write some from the great Alison Goldfrapp?

    "No time to fuck
    But you like the rush"

"Only clowns would play with those balloons"

"Dreams on your skin are on my tongue"

"All the world in one grain of sand
    And I've blown it
All my world in one grain of sand
    And you own it"

    with tenderness, alas,
    pricks like a bramble."

  • @Ponygurl  I wonder whether you've ever tangled with a real bramble.  It's a fierce plant.  On the plus side, it has the sweetest berries you're likely to find growing wild in the English countryside.
