  • In celebration of this being one of John Lennon's favourite songs, and Pete Townsend has gone on record as this is his favourite pop song, and the fact that this is the only time in chart history that the credited act and the song title are both palindromic, I give you...

Where are those happy days, they seem so hard to find
I tried to reach for you, but you have closed your mind
    Whatever happened to our love?
    I wish I understood
It used to be so nice, it used to be so good

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
    S. O. S.
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
    S. O. S.
    When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
    When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?

You seem so far away though you are standing near
You made me feel alive, but something died I fear
I really tried to make it out
    I wish I understood
What happened to our love, it used to be so good

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
    S. O. S.
The love you gave me, nothing else can save me
    S. O. S.
    When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
    When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?

So when you're near me, darling can't you hear me
    S. O. S.
And the love you gave me, nothing else can save me
    S. O. S.
    When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
    When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?
    When you're gone
How can I even try to go on?
    When you're gone
Though I try how can I carry on?

Makes me shiver just reading it.  Sentimental old UT ! ( or is that just mental ?)

  • One does not lie down to sleep with demons; the tension of their proximity is too great.

Klee was actually paying Nolde a compliment with this quote. He referred to Nolde as 'the demon of his region' and was alluding to his deepest respect for Nolde and his abilities as an Artist.

  • Nevertheless, consider why he (or a translator) would've chosen such a word rather than angel, genius, ruler... Regardless of how Klee might have esteemed Nolde, demons are still...well, demonized.

I agree that Demons have got a bad rep that is not always deserved. In the Klee quote, I think he was using Demon in a positive way, the same way you would use it in the phrase speed demon, to describe Nolde's passion for his art and the references within his work to the area in which he lived.
Below is Nolde's piece 'Lost Paradise' (Adam & Eve Banished from Paradise) depicting Adam and Eve after they were expelled from the Garden of Eden. That pesky snake is there; the silver tongued serpent. This painting is in the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art just outside Copenhagen. Eve's eyes do appear like she has been watching too much porn !

On the net, Albert Einstein is widely quoted to have said:
"I fear the day when the technology overlaps with our humanity.  The world will only have a generation of idiots".
What follows is a lot of server space and comment taken up by people who go to great lengths to argue that It cannot be proved that Albert ever said this. This misses the point. Even if AE did not actually say this ( it is more likely it is a later interpretation of other comments AE made about the science being used to create weapons of mass destruction), it is so true of the way people are today, and their obsession with Twitter, Facebook, Tumbler (even the odd fan forum). Look at the photos below and tell me, honestly, that you do not see yourself and friends in some of these pictures.

@Ponygurl You do realize that this quotation presumes heterosexual relationships, don't you?
