  • Seems to be some contradiction on the net about if Teddy said 'tread' or 'step'. Not wishing to trust Wiki (after all, anyone can be a Wiki editor - even me !) I looked this up and found this reference.

    I'll be damned.  I have known that quote all my life, before there was an internet, and I had it wrong the whole time!  I couldn't find a single reference to "tread".  I like "tread" better, though. ;)

  • Any recommendations, then, for British papers?  I kinda like the Guardian.  And, please correct me if/whenever I use British/English improperly.
  • To be honest, see my previous rant about journalists and how their best interests are served by sensationalism.
    Take everything with a pinch/sack of salt. That said, if I was recommending, avoid the tabloids as they are just comics or gutter snipes. We take the piss out of the Guardian but, to be honest, it is one of the more higher level papers. The Times I would hope could be trusted but you could try the Daily Telegraph. Anyone got a view on the Independant?
    Avoid the Sun, the Star or the Mirror. I would read Viz comic rather than any of these as it is more balanced, less Xenophobic, less sexist and less casually racist. (And a lot funnier).

  • Thanks!  I'm really looking for on-line viewing, so it sounds like The Week is out, not to mention I'm not about to pay for any news.  And, hahaha, don't worry, UT, I can only stomach the news about once a month.  It's worse than horror movies and creepier.  But, that said, I felt like The Guardian did a good job of capturing (UK version) a very different view of the news that anything I can find in the U.S. and, also, gave me a sense of England.  I filter the bullshit pretty well.  Of course, that leaves about three words per page...
