Apparently the Ruskies are claiming foul and the vote was rigged!

Was that the sound of hell freezing over? That's what will have to happen before anyone who lives in a truly free country should take advice from the Russian government on democracy and freedom. Having read the article, nothing to do with justifying their annexation of Crimea then?
I seem to remember that a little short moustachioed Corporal started his great plan with the annexation of Austria.
George Santayana said in his book Reason in Common Sense:
"Those who cannot remember the past, are condemned to repeat it,"
    Wise words.

  • Allegations of vote rigging in the Scottish Independance vote. Puts me in mind of a quote from Miguel de Cervantes:

"It seldom happens that any felicity comes so pure as not to be tempered and allayed by some mixture of sorrow." ( or the thought that the real reason you have lost is because you were cheated)

    Sour grapes .

Very happy it panned out this way , my thoughts were that it would mire down the whole of the UK in one mans attempt to be immortalised . I`m not that fond of Sturgeon either to be honest , she comes across as an arrogant piece of work .
I would suppose that the government had a "less said" mantra as Salmond and Sturgeon were on max "Bullshit" mode , as a friend used to say "Bullshit baffles brains" . Anything the government said was denounced as lies or bullshitted over "Businesses leaving Scotland...we`ll conquer the world with Haggis and Kilt exports , live off caviar , Irn-Bru and free deep fried Mars Bars" , lies always sound better than the truth , people don`t want the truth (I`ll stop there mid Tom Cruise speech) .

Aw, I'm filling up ! Thanks Iuv; consider it delivered. I'm coming to Seattle and San Francisco next April so if you want to find me, you can deliver it in person.

Reading Sartori's thoughts, now you come to look back, the whole Yes campaign was being delivered with an overt "They will not take our freedom" message. I also agree that I think No was the best path if you were a free thinking Scot. Scotland has always had its dignity and is well respected around the globe. Just looking at the people from outside who wanted the vote to be Yes, you can see a lot of it was driven by jealously of the success the Union has had and continues to bring or it was from the angle of trying to break that bond for ulterior motives.
The people of Scotland have spoken. Let's move on and get this miasma of current twats in power kicked into the dustbin of history and move on to a fairer and egalitarian society. (Descends from the lecturn to thunderous applause and knees Nick Clegg in the nuts as he walks by).

You was asked to explain what 'twerking' was. Cannot have an opinion until we understand what it is??
Of course, the filth section of my mind is already putting up many suggestions. Miley! Filthy girl !

  • I thought you guys were more worldly wise than this...you're just pulling my leg right? Twerking ( I believe it's now made its way into the Oxford ED) is what Ms C does ( and other brainless followers)... Sticking her arse and grinding about into any possible photo opportunity or creature with a pulse who is unfortunate enough to be within buttock distance. In fact she appears to stick it everywhere humanly possible, with her tongue sticking out in the pose of a dinosaur in the death throes of being gobbled up by a T Rex. So there you have it. The only thing she hasn't stuck it in ( yet) is my letterbox, but thank The Lord for that, it would traumatise the llama ( see other thread if you're not keeping up).
This intelligent and highly provocative young "lady" recently wore a huge padded bottom on top of her own and was spanked by the Mexican flag, thus upsetting many Mexicans ( damn right) and possibly creating a measly 3 day jail sentence for her ( if she can get her backside through the cell door).
How pathetic that all she has to offer is the musical talent of a barnacle and a porn-industry derived stage act to appeal to a set of brain dead spotty teenagers and dirty old men. ( I'm on one...does it show).
Compare that crap to our own Alison's immense talent, natural beauty and utter class...well...
  • I am obviously very innocent in the practise of Twerking and Mylie Cyrus in general.
Apparently, Billy Ray is in his way round now to give her a good spanking ! He will have plenty to aim for.

  • And before anyone reminds me that Alison has done one or two sexually provocative things on stage, in vids and in little gatefold books, well yes....but in her case that's just fine, totally classy, totally relevant etc ( Hubba hubba hee hee). Now I wouldn't want anyone to think I'm prudish.....!

  • Hee: I know what you mean. And that's fair enough when the song (or the album it's from to put it in the wider context) is about sex, sexual desire, passion and pleasure.

What bugged me about Miley Cyrus's sexed up act around Wrecking Ball was that the song itself isn't sexy IMO: it's a slightly piquant song of regret and self-blame about how the singer messed up a relationship before it ever really got going by comng on too heavy.  We're in country music bittersweet vignette of life territory here IMO.

And yet coming on too strong is exactly what the video and dance for the song did, only entirely without any hint of self-knowledge or irony.

Now on the other hand you could argue that a rather muted song like that would need all the randomly sexed-up help it could get to boost its sales. Also that MC was in retrospect looking for the first opportunity she could find to dump her earlier image conclusively, and Wrecking Ball was the innocent bystander caught in the crossfire (as it were).

Howdy, Stranger!
