Mercury was used in the processing of fur into felt.

Erethisim mercurialis was the disease, more commonly known as Mad Hatters Disease. Mercury was used in the felting process to stabilise the wool and the vapours caused this neurological disorder, which caused tremor, pathological shyness and irritability.

It's this concept of multiculturism and globalisation that so scares the old guard. It threatens their historic power bases and, with that, their fortunes. Brexit is a manifestation of this issue. ^ So odd to think Henry was a serial killer. He infected his wives with venereal disease, which caused stillbirths and eye problems in all his surviving children.
