  • So, here's a thing. On Wednesday night we were invited to attend a listening party in Crouch End, hosted by Mari Wilson for her new album Pop Deluxe that we had pledged for.
Only 20 of us, of which we were 4. Very intimate. Mari sang a couple of songs and then we sat a listened to the album; the first members of the public to do so. There was Preseco a plenty and a buffet of canapés prepared by Mari's own hand, which she bought round as she spent time with each group of people having a chat.
Intimate? The only way it could gave been more intimate is if it was round her house !
    Great time. Lovely lady.

    Fab !

  • UT - You forgot to add Jean Michel Jarre booked for October @ O2
What if the Hokey Cokey is what it's all about?
  • I also forgot to mention your new career as a budding music promoter!

  • Muse were fab! Theatrical, accomplished, entertaining, loud. Sure, Matt Bellemy is paranoid but he can spank that axe ! For a threesome, they certainly exude some energy.
Also found out that old friend @littlebird ( who I still commune with on a different plane), is a big fan as well and saw them earlier in the run at the O2.
Mari Wilson again next, then possibly Toyah, The Floyd Effect and then Jean Michel Jarre. Then, @Appy61 has been instrumental in setting up another gig for Mari Wilson at a local Arts Centre near us. He now thinks he's Harvey Goldsmith !

  • Ahhhhh am still here...sometimes :)

Gigs for me recently include A-ha at Birmingham Barclaycard Arena on 29th March and Muse also at Barclaycard Arena on 2nd April.
Never seen Muse before and were totally blown away by them!

Off to see ELO on Sunday at the Genting Arena, Birmingham.
  • Nice to see you back here @littlebird. The @forum sobriquet device is v useful. That was my 8th time with Muse. Never been disappointed.
    Pray, why not tarry awhile?

  • I was suprised to see 90s 4AD band Belly had reformed and playing non twat venues in the UK. Book one in London the day before a Pet shop boys gig. :D
  • Went to see the Rolling Stones Exhibitionism exhibition today. Very entertaining and I particularly enjoyed the recreation of the flat where they all lived in 1962 ( in a lot of squalor; just like all students !).
At the end is a 3D film of them in concert recently with some shots in close up. My God they look old ! Good luck to them though if they can still hack it.
I think the David Bowie Is exhibition just shaded it though. More cohesive in its delivery of the history.

  • Mari Wilson tonight (18th May) at St James Theatre in that there London. Top Hole chaps !

  • Well, Mari Wilson was fab at St James Theatre last night. The gig was in the studio, so only about 150 seats, and they were like dining chairs set around small round tables, so more like an intimate nightclub.
For our American friends who have no idea who Mari Wilson is, she was a bit of a pop sensation over here in the 1980's and always appeared sporting a huge Beehive hairdo. She specialised mainly in old classic hits and fronted a band called the Wilsations. More recently, she has toured extensively in a Dusty Springfield Musical review. She now has a new album called Pop Deluxe where she covers some well known standards, each one with a unique twist. A couple are slow and moody and this one, Burt Bacharach's The Look of Love was a genuine goose bump moment.
Unfortunately, I did not have my trust Lumix camera with me, so I had to resort to my elderly IPhone 3 to shoot this. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did !
