  • BLONDIE IS A BAND!
If I were dead, could I do this?
  • You are obviously a stranger to cryptic clues but seemingly capable of deciphering them. Well done.

Shall lure it back to cancal half a line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
  • Never mind. Perhaps, that promotion never reached the UK.

  • Dagwood would go into meltdown over this !

Congrats on the 1,001 UT and I wonder how many people would completely follow that reference.  I just happened to run across it not too many years ago.
  • I think Iuv was refering to something that we did not pick up on in the UK. It is the same with any eponymous named band.  Goldfrapp is a good example.  I have read many articles talking about the new Goldfrapp album and someone will comment 'Oh, I liked her last release', missing the fact that the records are a collaborative release and the name in this contect refers to a band.  We had the same problem bakc in the day with Toyah and I even remember the same response on occassion; 'Toyah is a band ! '
Blondie is not a well known cartoon in the UK, but it does appear in a Sunday glossy I seem to remember. It seemed a reasonable cryptic clue.  Atomic is probably my favourite Blondie track along with another that would have fitted the clue 'fade away and radiate'.

  • Her name was never Blondie.

I know. A clue to Debbie or Harry would have been too easy ( I wonder if Dagwood ever met Sally?). Cryptic ! The clues refered to Blondie. It was obviously not a picture of Chris Stein or Clem etc so this left Debbie !
Sorry, should have added that Blondie is not eponymous, but people do think that she is Blondie.

  • Oh. What was cryptic about it. I mean, what required cluing?

This was not a common picture and one I had not seen of Debbie before, so did not think it was obvious who it was. I thought about just posting the pic to see if anyone came back with 'that's Debbie Harry' , but thought the little clues may help. Just a bit of fun.

  • Aha! I've been so enamoured of her since I was a grammar school kid that I didn't even flinch. Sorry to ruin your riddle.

No prob. Thought we had a crossed wire. Nice pic. She is more...'covered' than we normally see her, and looks v sexy. I prefer the more classical female form myself. Stick insects have never floated my boat.

  • She almost always had a broader figure than many of the twigs of her era.

And all the better for in IMHO ! Mind you, I love Raquel Welch as well, for the same reason. I saw 1 Million Year BC in the cinema as an 8 year old and my love of the fuller figure female figure was set for life. A Diana Rigg ( as she was as Emma Peel) and Raquel Welch ( as she was in 1MYBC) sandwich = bliss :x

  • Keep piling 'em on. Soon you'll have a Dagwood.

  • Too late. No time for a sandwich with this boner!  Hubba !
