I first fell in love with Goldfrapp after watching My Summer of Love about 7 years ago.

Hello and wow. That's rarely mentioned as a starting point so well done for filling that gap! Was that really 7 years? Yikes.

I'm pretty sure My Summer of Love is slightly older than the 7 years mentioned but that's when I caught it on DVD and subsequently my baptism into Goldfrapp began So the starting point was the haunting Lovely Head on the soundtrack and then I went in search of Felt Mountain after that.

Thanks for the hellos and welcomes :)

I love the cinematic feel to their music. I am currently in love with beautiful Drew.  I've got some long overdue devotion I need to get out of my system.

It appears from your recent posts that you are an intellectual cinema goer and so I have no idea if you stay clear of the blockbusters.  However, I was wondering if you thought that the cinematic feel would lend itself to a James Bond soundtrack.  I've been hoping that they'd at least be offered the title track for many years.
Though we may deserve it, it will be worth it.
  • Oops sorry to butt in. Stranger is very Bond. But we won't talk about til album is out.

James Bond is slightly shit nowadays I think, the days of kitsch, big strings are gone. Goldfrapp doing Bond now would be like a pastiche? Of what Bond used to be :)

Yeah. James Barry fitted the Bond of the 60s. But now Bond is just another generic money-making, big budget blockbuster franchise. Its beneath Goldfrapp.

It'd sure make them a shoeload of money, though.

If I were dead, could I do this?
  • I always thought "Human" was soooo James Bond.  I don't know if I'll ever dislike James Bond.  It's just the change of actors is wrenching every time.

Hi, yeah you're spot on with your observation, I'm a huge film fan and do see a lot of films (blockbusters included). I would have agreed with you about the Bond theme a few years ago, I'm a huge fan of the franchise and John Barry. But like Whisperit said, the past few years the quality has declined and maybe it would be a bit pastiche, or maybe they could inject some credibility back into it. I'm sure if they were offered, they wouldn't turn down the opportunity. I've always wondered whether Goldfrapp would take a break from the normal album release in the future and move towards more film soundtrack work as Mogwai and Underworld have done recently with commercial success. In fact I'd love to hear Alison go back to her Opera roots at some point, I wonder if she ever would.....

  • I would be happy for Goldfrapp to do more soundtrack stuff, but not Bond. It feels kinda obvious and I'd prefer then to do something more out of the box.
They were considered for a Bond theme a few years back and had meetings with Dave Arnold but when Daniel Craig was chosen for the new Bond they decided to go in a different direction and felt Goldfrapp didn't fit their needs. Anyhow like whisper it said above Bond is a cash cow for some but I don't think Goldfrapp need that, they'd be better off doing something that would allow them to be more creative.

You're very kind, however I don't think that I needed to be Derren Brown to appreciate your love of film.  Ironically I really liked Casino Royale and would've liked Goldfrapp involved at that point.  However, since then I have been less and less impressed.  My best mate and I are a lone voice in dispelling Skyfall as a bit naff.  Most people I talk to adore that film.

In terms of artists going on to soundtrack work I'd just like to add Orbital and Hybrid to your list.  :)

I'm glad that its not just me that likes Alison performing Opera.  However, I would probably not want a pure operatic album as I like the contemporary twist and so 9 tracks that all sound like Utopia would be good for me.  ;)
