Sometimes I'll email an author I like. Brad Meltzer is one of them. He just wrote a couple of books for his children and I love what he says his reasoning was:
"I wrote it because I was tired of my daughter thinking that reality TV stars and loud-mouthed sports players were heroes. I tell my kids all the time: That's fame. Fame is different than being a hero. I wanted my kids to see real heroes...and real people no different than themselves."
Nice one.

"I once had a rose named after me and I was very flattered. But I was not pleased to read the description in the catalogue: no good in a bed, but fine up against a wall."
