  • Last nights gig with John Grant at the Great Hall at Alexandra Palace was fantastic. First gig for 19 months and he was fabulous, great voice, brilliant songs real passion in his lyrics. The hall was wonderful. It’s been renovated but being listed, they’ve done it to preserve its original appearance so there are holes in parts of the ceiling and plaster missing from the walls. A sort of shabby chic.
It would make a great venue for a Goldfrapp gig, just saying Alison & Will !

  • This coming Sunday, Nick Cave & Warren Ellis at the Regency in Ipswich, which is near us.
No gigs for 19 months then, like buses, two come along together!

  • Well, the Nick Cave gig was interesting. I’m not that familiar with his music, it’s more a Lisa thing but the two I do know, ‘Red Right Hand’ & ‘Higgs Boson Blues’ he didn’t play!
It was more sermon than gig. A lot of the songs are personal monologues it seems, lots of references to God, (he lost a Son who fell from a cliff near Brighton) and he struts around the stage, bird like, stick thin, gesticulating, often on his knees, or his arms up in the air. The die hard Nick Cave fans all rushed to the front for the 2 encores, and you could see there was a lot of reverence towards him, holding their hands out so he could touch them, not in the rock concert fist bumping way, but longer contact, almost in a ‘receiving the host’ way.
Strange, but enjoyable. I will be loading two vids I took up to Lisa’s YouTube account later today (look for ‘Lisa Rippon’ on YT) and I’ve already posted three from Tuesday night’s John Grant gig.
    Enjoy!

  • Did another Floyd Effect gig a week or so ago. Still one of the best Floyd tribute acts around. As usual, they played the whole of DSOTM all the way through but they also played most of A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

Next up, the Human League and Dare 40 at Wembley Arena.

  • An album from about 1987. This is Dogs of War.

  • You misunderstand me.  I listened to it on youtube.  "'Whew!"  was my reaction.  Very nice indeed.
  • We went to see The Human League last Saturday at the Wembley SSE Arena. They were very good and it was the Dare 40 anniversary tour. They had support from Claire Grogan Altered Images & Tom Bailey/The Thompson Twins so a right old 80’s fest!
Will be posting 4 Human League vids on Lisa’s YouTube site tomorrow.

  • Went to see The Stranglers last night supported by The Ruts (or Ruts DC as they now seem to be calling themselves). Good gig. Stranglers did 26 songs, 2 encores & played for 2 hours. Jean Jac Brunel is 70 on Monday!
