  • So you were very young when you made your foray into Tammy. Bit like Top Man.

Aye I was a wee nipper. I loved this place so much. I would save up my pocket money and buy Technicolor outfits and end up looking like a spice girl... :))

And I also owned a pair of awful awful combat trousers as thought I was being sent to Syria to fight in battle and a silly tee shirt. A bit like this:

  • I came across this today.....
Image result for truth coming out of her well

It's Gerome's 1896 painting of 'Truth Coming Out Of The Well Armed With Her Whip To Chastise Mankind' and exhibited in the Salon (and now in the Musee Anne de Boujou)

Are the 'interpretations' attached to this picture the most transparently bogus excuse for the bourgeoise to publicly ogle a bit of BDSM porn ever?

'It's an allegory for the 'naked truth',,,snicker snicker...Democritus's aphorism that Truth is unknowable, because she lies in a well...slather slather...the myth of when The Lie meets Truth and steals her clothes to go about in the world...droooool....a commentary on the impressionist movement...." Lol.
  • Nice painting. I've got a soft spot for the Pre-Raphelites and in particular Alma Tadema, Byrne Jones etc.
One of my favourites is John Collier (not the tailors for you who are old enough) and his painting Lileth.
She was the original demon and he depicted her encoiled in a snake. I have a copy on our dining room wall.
Yes PG, I know she's naked but take it up with Mr Collier.

  • On the same wall is a copy of The Snake Charmer by Henri Rousseau, another favourite. The dining room is decorated in a turn of the century style (19th to 20th), so paintings in this style fit very well.

  • Tried to post Two Nudes In The Forest (The Earth Itself), but my phone won't let me. Damn.

  • We also have an original hand coloured Lithograph 'Daphne' by Austrian artist Ernst Fuchs on the wall as well as one of Mrs UT's oil paintings '5 Little Pigs' from her Nursery Rhymes Stripped Bare series.

  • Hey all
It’s been pretty quiet on here of late. Summer/Covid/Lockdown/Not much Frapp action all to blame I suppose.
Just to let you know that we are expanding Lisa’s Instagram art account to include a gallery of her work. That’s all that will be on this one, a kind of virtual retrospective of her work since her time at art school in chronological order as best we can coming up to date. It’s a bit of a task. We’ve posted 24 images so far, and only got as far as 1986 and the early 90’s was a very productive period for her so it will take a few weeks to complete. We are trying to post 3 or 4 new ones every day.
This new account is Instagram lisaripponfineart_gallery
Her older account, which is more of a mix of art and social stuff, is lisarippon_art
    Give her a follow!
Happy Summer all and fingers crossed the world improves going forward.

  • Ooo, I like Lisa's stuff.
    How's the art gone recently?
  • It’s been slow in lockdown. All the galleries are shut and a Summer exhibition she was due to put a piece in to was moved to on-line so she dropped out of it. To be honest, she’s such a Sun bunny, getting her to do artwork in the warmer months is a challenge. Heaven Cent was the latest one she did and there’s a couple in her studio that are part completed. If you go to the Gallery on Instagram, it starts with some very early stuff and will slowly move up to date until all her major pieces are displayed there. Her regular Instagram lisarippon_art has all the latest stuff already but lisaripponfineart_gallery will get there in due course; it’s just tracking down photos of all the stuff. Our loft is full of it - 40 years worth!

  • Well, 2 months later, the virtual gallery I have been constructing to showcase Lisa’s art is complete. It features 125 of her paintings from her time at art college, through the period where she studied for her BA at Wimbledon School of Art and then through the years right up to date showing Most of her paintings and commissions.
Come and pay a visit and give her a follow! Follow this link:

Her website is www.lisaripponfineart.co.uk It’s doesn’t have the latest stuff there (because it’s a bastard to edit) but it does have much more info about her, and about art, techniques etc.
