    You're right. How often was the utter scandal of Grenfell Tower brought up by the media in this campaign? How often did they ask questions about the millions individual Tories (and their friends) are making through deregulation, and finding themselves positions on the boards of companies they are in charge of deregulating? The list of unasked questions is endless.

    Meanwhile, the "Get Brexit Done" slogan was breathtakingly transparent. Nothing more than a figleaf over the naked ambition of the ruling class to get rid of all the protections of the European Court of Human Rights, employment law, environmental law, competition law. They want free rein to strip every asset and sweat every worker.
    It had also the unmistakeable subtext of wanting to find a "solution" to the "problem" of all these unsightly homeless and brown and sick and poor people who keep asking awkward questions and getting themselves burnt up in tower blocks. Boris showed his attitude when confronted with the picture of the sock child on a hospital floor - he stuck the picture in his pocket and carried on ranting about "Getting Brexit Done".

    How can I respect a decision arrived at by a consensus of people at a referendum, when it is quite clear that the information provided to inform that decision was erroneous, manipulated By dark money and populated by lies to achieve the result required?
    This is not democracy and therefore cannot earn my agreement. 
    This is how totalitarian regimes work; decide the answer they want and then give the flimsiest veneer to how they achieved the result to imply a democratic decision.

    I like to think that I live in a democratic country where general elections are fair and carried out in a manner to prevent manipulation of the result but, to be brutally honest, if I consider what has been done by various groups & interested parties over the last 4 years to further their own interests, I’d be naive to at least not think it was a possibility. 
    Appalling! To lose respect for the integrity of your own countries democratic processes is quite a step down and a wake up call we should all heed.

    Has anyone said the Tories are still scummy twats recently?
    We’ve officially turned our backs on the EU and are now in the implementation period. Not much will change till the end of the year but after that, who knows as the Tories are corrupt, sociopathic scum only interested in enriching themselves on a bonfire of workers rights and standards reduction.

    Well, over here we’re dealing with this cluster-fuck of an impeachment trial. We have some giant dickwad playing with national security and using our tax money to do it and the Senate turns a blind eye?! His billion dollar bank fraud and Russian ties alone should’ve been enough to terminate his presidency. Congress is not doing the job it was established for. These are major crimes, because when the law breaks the law...there is no law.

    There are strong parallels between what is happening in the UK at the moment and in the US. It’s founded on telling lies and if anyone calls you out, you just double down on them. I’m not sure how your media deals with this; we know that Fox News seems to be carrying the flag for the Tangerine Overlord but not sure about the others, although we often hear him saying ‘fake news’ with the fingers of his tiny hands making air quote marks and his lips pursed. It helps if your supporters are brain dead morons.
    Over here, virtually all the media is in the pockets of billionaires and with a few exceptions, they are all sucking off the Tories to avoid the scourge of ‘Socialism’. None of them seem to understand or care that the words Socialism and Society share the same entomological roots and that actually caring for the people in a society that are less well off is actually a good thing. The real kicker is when they quote ‘Jesus’ at you and you then know that they are people who haven’t read, or at least understood, Scripture at all. I always ask them ‘when the boy gave Jesus 5 loaves and two fishes, how much did he ask in payment and when Jesus in turn fed the 5,000, how much profit did he add on and charge them?’ They can’t handle the fact that Jesus was actually preaching democratic socialism.
    Not that I’m religious in any way; I just had a mis-spent youth that involved being sent to Sunday School.

    Yes, Trump is an alt-right troll. There isn't even the pretence to rational, reasoned discussion or moral decency. Anyone opposing him on these grounds is met with a "joke", a personal attack, a bogus claim to victimhood or a deliberate misrepresentation of the argument.

    Meanwhile, I made the mistake of watching a documnetary about the Grenfell Tower fire. A mistake because it made me both furious and sad. The fire was the outcome of a series of Tory policies  - limiting the ability of local councils to spend money on social housing, allowing councillors to have financial interests in development plans they take decisions on, the de-regulation of safety checks, the removal of public accountability in housing management....and the Tory councillors who oversaw all this are still in office. Utterly disgusting.

    We don’t get that in the UK so much; politicians playing the God/Jesus card. It seems a perculier American politics thing.
    One thing I would say to them, and I posted it on Twitter for anyone who follows me there, is if you are a Christian as you claim, how come your policies and actions are predominantly in conflict with Scripture?
    If we take the feeding of the 5,000 as an example, Jesus was given the 5 loaves and 2 fishes by a young boy. Not sold, given. When Jesus divided the food and distributed it to the masses, he did not sell it; he did not add on a profit, he gave it to the masses.
    At the very least, it shows Jesus was an anti-capitalist and most of his teachings about do unto others as they would have them do unto you, caring for the stranger and alms for the poor etc are strong indicators of a basic democratic socialism model.
    And yet these ‘Christians’ screw over everyone they come across, are corrupt and their only God is that of money and their altars are not adorned with the cross but with the $ sign.
    If Jesus ever does rise again, guess who he will be straight round to visit and kick their tables over!

    Is there anyone in the American Congress who is not comfortably rich?
    As a contrast, following our recent General Election, quite a few Labour MP’s lost their seats as former Northern ‘Red Wall’ constituencies voted Conservative to ‘Get Brexit Done’. Although a number of those former MP’s do receive a basic ‘redundancy’ payment, a few had to sign on at the employment office to look for new work as many are not rich at all but normal working people.
    I see that election to office in the US depends on vast sums of money being spent by candidates, a lot raised by supporters or ‘sponsors’; a front for industrial lobbyists. 
    A basic MP’s salary in the UK is about £79,000 per annum + expenses.

    Yes, there is supposed to be a separation of Church and State, yet the religion card is frequently played here. It’s coming from self-entitled, old, white men. Men who commit fraud, adultery, and are racist..yet they espouse a Christian agenda. And yes, they worship money. I was surrounded by these types growing up and in the workplace. It’s disgusting.

    Maybe @WW was right all along. I can finally understand it now. These awful men vying for power and screwing the population over all have small mushroom dicks that can’t stay hard. From all accounts, that’s definitely Trump’s case.

    I don't think I've ever been angrier at the Tory scum.

    Yesterday, they voted to block the implementation of the recommendations of the Grenfell fire inquiry, which recommended requiring the owners of tower blocks to inform the local fire service of the fire-relevant construction details of their tower blocks, an annual fire inspection and sharing fire evacuation plans with the people WHO ACTUALLY LIVE IN THE FUCKING PLACE. It's just the poor anyway, I guess.

    They're implementing more legal restrictioins on the right to protest.

    And - just as public health, patients' advocacy and person with common sense has been warning, their wanton incompetence at handling COVID has caused an immediate second wave.

    How many more people are they going to kill this year?
