Well, the Human League were fantastic last Wednesday. Hit after hit. Still Phil, Joanne and Susan as it has been since around 1980. The girls changed 3 times and we lost count of how many times Phil did. He now sports a completely bald pate but he is 63. Talking of bald 60 year olds. The support act was also so. Really surprised that this was Midge Ure and his Electronica band. Again, a cavalcade if hits including Vienna and Dancing with Tears in my eyes. I also did not know that he penned Fade to Grey. It felt like two headliners as they were also on top form. A great night.
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ. Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit. Shall lure it back to cancal half a line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
Which brings me to the secret I’ve been alluding to the last couple of months. Tomorrow, I have a significant birthday. One of those ones with a bought on the end. For anyone interested, I am 18 months older than Will Gregory. Anyway, my gift from my dear lady Mrs UT is my very own gig. 60 friends are invited to a small pub near us with a large function room. Support act is our friend Chamonix Aspen. He’s doing it for nought as a friend and also, to quote his words he is honoured to be opening for an icon. Our headliner is none orher than my other Twitter pal Mari Wilson. To say I’m excited is an understatement and trust me, I don’t excite easily. Lots of work to do tomorrow setting it up as I am sound engineer as well so I’m setting up the PA system. Others are dressing the room and setting up the buffet. Watch this space for more details and photos. \:D/

It did go well. A lot of planning went in to it, from securing the sound system (a 1200 watt Opera system with a pair of Front of House speakers, two stage fold back speakers, 12 channel mixer, vocal effects processor, two mikes and about 120 metres of cables) catering (good old M & S and a huge recommendation to them) invitations, lighting, venue, artiste procurement etc etc, so it was good eventually to sit back and let them do their stuff. It has made me realise just what goes into putting on a gig, and we only had 60 people!
I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Don't think I've posted this on here before but this is one of the songs from my birthday gig as sang by Mari Wilson. I took 3 vids as Mari asked that we not film the whole show, so will post the other two later. I did take a digital recording off the desk though, so have the whole show as a .wav file. Handy if you know the sound engineer (oops, that was me!) we did that balloon backdrop as well! Any, a Burt Bacharach song, originally done by Jack Jones - the wonderfully achronistic Wives & Lovers.
