I like reviews that include instructions.
  • Sounds like a regular Friday night round at Arboria !
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ.
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit.
Shall lure it back to cancal half a line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

    Goldfrapp Silver Eye

    (Mute)

Named after the Moon, Silver Eye waxes and wanes. It gets off to full-beam start with “Anymore” and “Systemagic”, a swaggering pair of synth numbers reminiscent of Goldfrapp’s Supernature heyday.

“Tigerman” slows the pace down attractively as electronic beats unfurl around Alison Goldfrapp’s languorous vocal. “Zodiac Black” opens with a clumsy impression of The Knife before developing into a magnificent ode to night-time, with Goldfrapp singing high above Will Gregory’s inky synth tones.

“Beast That Never Was” wanes too far, all atmospherics and no drama, but “Ocean” reverses the lull with pounding disco cast in dark industrial hues, in which Goldfrapp sings with uncharacteristic intensity of wanting to be saved from “the hell I’m in — your fantasy”.

Apparently Mr. Sasha Van der Speeten thinks that the new album is not very innovative. He says that Silver Eye is not really surprising: " Nice sound experiment, but we heard no memorable song.". I beg to disagree with the reviewer, but everybody is entitled to his or her opinion, of course.

  • Something one of my university lecturers taught me. "Everyone is absolutely entitled to their opinion, but your opinion can be absolutely wrong."

  • The Electricty Club are fans!

GOLDFRAPP don’t repeat, they don’t pretend, they just consistently deliver. It proves there’s plenty of new life to be brought into releases of an established act.

A definitive challenge for their contemporaries, it’s a strong contender for the ‘Album of 2017’ title, even this early in the annum.
