A good question deserving a thorough answer.
Personally I trawl the Forum via the 'Discussion' option. This effectively gets rid of all the categories and simply shows all the threads in one long continuous list. It appears that I've started a thread in 'Discussion' mode and for reasons best known to itself the board chucked the thread into the 'Goldfrapp News' category. As far as I'm aware there was / is no point at which you can decide which catagory to post the thread in using that method. Another more savvy board member may know different however.....
