I bought that on DVD with three other Japanese films a little while back.  I haven't watched any of them yet. The other three are:

    1. Nausicaa
    2. Ocean Waves
    3. The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
I'm glad that at least one of these four films awaiting my attention receives a thumbs up.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is one of my favorite animes ever.
    Just saying...

That's good to hear.  It sounded interesting from the plot summary.

    Oh, straining my memory. Vaguely...
If I were dead, could I do this?
  • Going to see this tomorrow night with a friend.

We both love a good doc, she's a Bulgarian photographer and I've done
(and enjoy) a load of street raw style work so it couldn't be much
    better.

Second time we'll have 'arted' together in less than a week.

    I must be crackers :x :\">

  • Carpy, that just played here. I meant to catch it, but I was in hibernation mode and couldn't drag myself to the cinema five minutes from my front door.

So, will you be getting this street raw style from the film or with your friend?

  • I think the one I'm going to is the last showing here but I wanted to make sure to see it for many reasons.

  • I think the last film I saw was The Blood of Fu Manchu.  It's a very odd film.  It doesn't make any sense after the manner of Fu Manchu films.  But it was directed by Jess Franco and also doesn't make sense at the more profound level we find in Jess Franco films.  In addition, it reflects Jess Franco's disagreeable obsessions.  It's nasty in a way that the earlier Fu Manchu films aren't.  Christopher Lee appeared in at least three films directed by Jess Franco, I wonder why.  (The Blood of Fu Manchu, The Castle of Fu Manchu, and Eugenie.)  Was he in such desperate need of the money?

  • Just watched Dirty Harry for the umpteenth time. Still a very powerful film full of iconic imagery. The end scene where Harry throws his badge into the water still makes me want to jump up and say 'Yeah Harry, fuck 'em. fuck the system. That scumbag got what he deserved. He dealt pain and misery and died in pain and misery'.
Ah ! All better now. We could do with more people like Harry.

I've been out and worked in that style a couple of times before. It's quite nervewracking to not ask people before taking pics of them in the street. Once you ask you will never get a genuine natural picture so hit & run can be the only way to capture genuine moments.

Occasionally you get somebody you want and you have to ask but it's harder to get results if you do. I'm at work at the mo but will linky a couple of shots in the relevant thread for you when I can.

Most Lynch is lost on me.

  • I like Lynch generally but this was pretty thin, 'shit just happened because' about sums it up.
