Naughty! ;)) Do I yearn for the days of jolly good child thrashings? Grammar schools and grand buggery?! No What I yearn for is the days when parents knew how to parent and instill good behaviour and motivation for learning at home. I have to make allowances in my job, working with SEN kids, a lot of whom have challenging behaviour, plus parents with special needs and serious mental health issues of their own. I can understand why so many teenagers are demotivated and depressed these days... On the same day little Hitler ruined my Friday afternoon, a boy in my own class, who has a very difficult home life ( to be tactful), health problems etc..gave me a present, a "Me To You" teddy bear, that he had been meaning to give me since the start of term. I could've cried. It sits in my car now as a reminder of the real reason I go to work. Sniff.
I had to say goodbye to my little stinkers on Friday--all 160 of them, one class at a time--as my gig was temporary. I put my life on hold to cover a vacant spot. The admin, fellow teachers, and I really figured I'd be there the entire school year. It was heartbreaking; a few kids cried, even bad-asses. I held back tears a couple times. What did I learn? If you ever want to know how much someone loves and appreciates you, leave them. But first teach them to appreciate Ray Bradbury, O. Henry, and Homer.
Yep, fully agree kids are much better off once they see the world through the eyes of Homer, Bart, Marge etc. Ray Bradbury. What a colossus! Part of my English Speaking Board exam was built around The Illustrated Man. I was 11. I was already seeing new beginnings, new surroundings, new love and other worlds to dream of.
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ. Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit. Shall lure it back to cancal half a line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
PG- where is that clip from? Is it a film or US comedy? ;))
It's from this hilarious series called 'Strangers with Candy'. I think it aired from 1999-2001 (?) Think they made a film too. I believe Steve Colbert wrote it. I can watch it today and still crack up! I love that it's not politically correct at all.
