Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere, I've looked at clouds that way.
But now they only block the sun, They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done, But clouds got in my way.
I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud's illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels, The dizzy dancing way that you feel As every fairy tale comes real, I've looked at love that way.
But now it's just another show, You leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know, Don't give yourself away.
I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions I recall I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud, To say "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds, I've looked at life that way.
Oh but now old friends they're acting strange, They shake their heads, they say I've changed Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day.
I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all
I've looked at life from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all
They paved paradise And put up a parking lot With a pink hotel, a boutique And a swinging hot spot
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot
They took all the trees Put 'em in a tree museum And they charged the people A dollar and a half just to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot
Hey farmer farmer Put away that DDT now Give me spots on my apples But leave me the birds and the bees Please!
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot
Late last night I heard the screen door slam And a big yellow taxi Took away my old man
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot
They paved paradise And put up a parking lot
Always loved these lyrics. The irony of taking all the trees out of paradise to preserve them in a tree museum; genius. As the lady says, you don't know what you've got till it's gone !
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ. Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit. Shall lure it back to cancal half a line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
^An unbelieavable composer. My favorite is probably I'm a radio...or California. Sounds like she's doing well but a shame about that disease. Sounds horrid.
Guess I thought "Both Sides Now" had been written by Judy Collins. What poetic songstresses, both of them! And Rickie Lee Jones, albeit a decade late on the scene.
Some kids like watching Saturday cartoons. Some girls listen to records all day in their rooms. But what do birds leave behind of the wings that they came with If a son's in a tree building model planes?
So, wonderful lyrics pop up in the most unexpected places. Where is this from?
'Look out on a Summers day, with eyes that know the darkness in my soul'.

Before the Internet, we could have had fun with this but too easy to cheat now.
It is from Vincent by Don McLean. Who would have thought. Fab !

"It's the aim of existence to offer resistance to the flow of time" and ( from the same song) " I'm painting by numbers but can't find the colours to fill you in". Two of my all time favourite lines in one song! Buzzcocks-I Believe ( also covered by Conjure One).
I've always sung the opening lines of "Song From Under the Floorboards" with particular relish...
"I am angry, I am ill and i'm as ugly as sin/My irritability keeps me alive and kicking/I know the meaning of life, it doesn't help me a bit/I know beauty and I know a good thing when I see it"
