  • What does everyone think?

What I like about him is you can't have a view on him without taking sides. Recent years dicussions on politics has been followed by a shrug of the shoulders. But stuff like the not singing at teh national anthem you can't really have a view on it without taking a certain view point. There is no spin to complain about.

    I love it!

  • I give him two years before he is destroyed by the system.

But in the meantime, it is great that we get a bit of an opportunity to hear that there really is more than one way the world could be organised.
  • I'm concerned he is being demonised as a radical leftie socialist in an attempt to cripple the labour movement as a credible opposition for the next generation, thus strengthening the grip of the Tories for the same period and embolding them to take more and more drastic action like privatising the NHS.
My political viewpoint is not important here but I know that good strong government comes from a strong and credible opposition.

  • ^ Problem is if people are scared of change, change will never happen!

We didn't have a credible Labour government. If any of the other 3 candidates had won we would have had another 'Milli-bland' party.

I am sick of everybody constantly saying everything is fucked. Then when there is a small possibility of change people panic and say oh, it might be messy, best not! I quite expect if he gets in there will be some fall out and if I didn't lose a bit of my privileged western lifestyle he probably wouldn't be it doing properly.

I'm afraid of people in Britain can't see how good their NHS is (or they would have voted accordingly) so then maybe if the Tories destroy it, it would be better. Least we'd finally get it. We'd have to rebuild it again - the talented people will still be there.

The thing about Corbyn is if we don't use the opportunity we will have no excuse years down the line.I am so shocked most people seemed to know what is wrong, but are afraid if we change it it will get worse.

Never has George Orwells 1984 been as relavant!

I just hope he stays dog minded (not singing anthem) and sticks to his principals/morals as the more shit that is thrown at him by the media and the more takes it's with dignity, the more common people will support him. The contradiction about Britain (and this is mainly the English) we may all want success and to be the best but when it really comes to the crunch the main body of the public will support the honest underdog.

I don't think Corbyn will be PM, but that's not the point. If by being in opposition he changes our media and the way we do politics that will be success. I'm happy to have right wing politicians, I just want them the be honest. I suppose Farage started this. You may hate his views but at least you know where you are so if people vote for him they can't say they were decieved.

And this is not just the crazy English. You have Yanis in Greece, Sanders in the USA. There is a will.
  • Yes, and i think the example of Syreza in Greece, Podemos in Spain the "Arab Spring" and so on are all important too.Even where the radical anticapitalist/antiestablishment movements ultimately fail to bring about utopia, they at least keep alight the flame of dissent.

I dont agree with quite a bit of Corbyn's politics, and I think he has zero chance of becoming PM. But the great thing is that his example shows that that manouevring for support within the Westminster/London media clique is not the only way of changing the world.

  • This popped into my mind as it seemed relevant.

    Paranoia strike deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line and the men come and take you away.

Anyone who does'nt know where these are from, go to 'What are you listening to now', for what it's worth.

  • Hey, we still have schools sending girls home because they have blue hair.
Nothing has been learned I am afraid.

Agreed. The only thing I'm sick of seeing more than that is when people throw around the word "leftie" or "leftist" as if it's some horrible, terrorist-related thing. And it's really, really not.

  • I haven't been on the site for a while cos I've been busy with union stuff ( I'm a union rep in the workplace). I should love the Tories...they'll be banning unions altogether soon with this new bill of theirs, so then my work will be done. But my will won't. And that of all the other hard working under appreciated, overburdened, loyal colleagues I know. I'm horrified with all that's happening in the education system at present. Not to mention what's happening in the NHS. Doctors and consultants on 90 hours a week contracts? This country is completely screwed. I'm not sure whether Corbyn is the antidote, but I agree that his style of politics is.
