  • from that. i would LOVE to hear what they came up with for Casino Royale before they were dropped...
  • I think that is the Bond franchise's problem, CM, that they think the artist makes the movie.  That is way too little cofidence in their own strength as a franchise and "discovering" artists is where they should have their head rather than relying on artists for success.  But, then, boldness is not the norm of well-established enterprises.  I think Bond movie coming out, for a lot of people, is kinda like Christmas, an event to look forward to.  Now, if they picked a song that sucked, no matter the artist, then, yes, that would....suck.

Good point!  I wonder is there is a contract problem.  I wouldn't be surprised.

  • Whoops!  Thank you, website, for being so screwy.  Not to say that what I did wasn't pretty screwy of itself.

  • I think they're playing safe with the movie themes, ppicking big names regardless of talent (Quantums theme...) but in the video games they've been giving curve balls. Like Joss Stone doing the theme for Blood Stone

And Nicole Sherzinger belting a strong cover of Goldeneye

I always figured if Frapp were chosen it would be in the game side of the franchise.

  • Unlikely to be Adele as she is not the current flavour. GF could be there as the Artistic choice; class will always out and they are respected by their peers. However, bookies favourite is Sam Smith. If this is true, then the film should be renamed Emporers New Clothes. Don't rate him in any way I am afraid.

Shall lure it back to cancal half a line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
  • Muse would be interesting though. Prefer Frapp but I wait with anticipation.

  • Hm. Latest speculation is that we will have to suffer Ellie Goulding huffing out the theme tune to Spectre. (:|
You would expect that for something as iconic as a Bond movie, there would be some bylaw or something that forced them to use someone that can actually sing. ~X(
Mind you, over the 50 years, there would be a few people in chokey by now !

  • I think Ellie has a sound that could work for a Bond movie.  Maybe not as well as Goldfrapp but she's pretty good.  Trying to figure her out, I find it baffling that everyone notes her as a multi-instrumentalist and, then, go on to just talk about her singing.  Actually, the only site that doesn't mention her multi-instrumentalism is her own.
  • I'd rather Paloma Faith personally, she could pull it off quite well. Ellie is alright but not a powerhouse.
  • ^Yeah, she'd work.
  • I think BitterSweet would be pretty cool.  It would probably have to be a pretty unusual Bond movie, though.
  • You know, the funny thing is that I went back and decided I should listen to a few songs by both of those artists.  The first song I happen to listen to was really, really good.  But, as I listened to more, there's just not that depth and variance to the tunes that dear old Goldfrapp gives us.  Sigh.  I guess they would both do a good job, especially as the director gets to pick and choose from any submissions, it sounds like.  But, Goldfrapp!!!!
  • Again, Thomas Newman is scoring this film... which leaves me to believe its super unlikely it'll be Frapp... They're very good friends with David Arnold who has scored the past billion Bond films made... so unless David has rubbed shoulders with Sam Mendes and Thomas Newman and name dropped them, i'm thinking it'll be unlikely it'll be them.

    Goddamnit!!!
