  • Shampoo dodger, eh?  That reminds me of something from my novel Jane and Celebrity.  This begins with Aspen, a young actress, casting scorn on her sister's choice of shampoo.  The conversation moves on to what these people (in the far future) imagine the Old Time blasphemers (= us) did with their hair.  Shampoo dodging is mild compared with...

    “Trixy Tresses!” Aspen
    repeated. “That’s so last decade…”

    “I think,” I corrected
her, “that it’s been on the market for as long as Her Majesty has
been on the throne – longer, probably.”

    “Well, even more so,”
Aspen continued, “if it dates back to the bad old days of the
Democracy. Maybe even the Old Time blasphemers washed their hair
    with it.”

    “I’m pretty sure,” I
    responded, “it isn’t that old.”

    “Besides,” Celia said,
“I expect that, instead of shampoo, the blasphemers had something
to make their hair even dirtier.”

    “If that’s what they
wanted,” Nicola added, “I expect that dog shit had been invented
    in those days.”

    “Not even a blasphemer
    would…” Celia began.

    “And an actress,”
Aspen said, “wouldn’t use Trixy Tresses. My friends and I all
    use Lovelocks.”

    “It must be heavy duty
shampoo, sis,” Rowena replied, “to get all that stage mud out of
    your hair.”

    “Stage mud brushes out
really easily – not like wood chips.”

    “What are you talking
about?” Rowena asked. “A quick flick of the fingers sees to
    that.”

    “Doing that doesn’t
    remove the resin.”

    “Wood resin smells
    nice.”

    “It does,” Celia
agreed. “I love to bury my nose in Rowena’s hair after she’s
had a hard day chipping wood.”

    “Not only does she get
resin in it,” Aspen objected, “but – on a day like that – she
    gets sweaty, as well.”

“I like the smell of her
    sweat, too.”

    “Yuck!”

  • ^ I don't know why there are all those unnecessary line breaks.  They're not in the original, and not even removing the formatting stops them from appearing on this site.
  • 30 Days of Night. A pretty uncompromising gore fest set in an Alaskan town in the high Artic where they have a 30 day period with no sun. So, who would like that ? Vampires of course !
Below is the trailer. The music from about 1/2 way through is Apocolypse Now by Muse.

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ.
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit.
Shall lure it back to cancal half a line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
  • Sexiest vampires ever! Absolute beasts!

  • Greta Garbo and Conrad Nagel, The Mysterious Lady, 1928

"Suddenly, in the middle of an indifferent American society film, in the midst of nothing but actors dressed as people, amongst mustachioed lovers and despots and the polished faces of girls, a young woman descends the stairs, opens the door of her automobile, drops a bouquet of flowers, gazes for a moment with tender attentiveness into the face of the stranger who quickly picks it up, then reaches smiling for the flowers and has climbed in and is gone. And one is struck by a wretched feeling like a horrible shock, as though one had become completely enslaved to this woman. Who is this, for Heaven’s sake? It is Greta Garbo of Sweden."

What is done in the dark will always come to light
  • Last film: Fat Girl (MINDBLOWING!)
Since you're guys are talking about TV shows too I've been watching Futurama, near the end actually, brilliant series!
  • I just watched War Horse. Confused by the lighting effect during the final, homecoming scene. Does anyone know what the director was trying to show there?
All I could think about was a solar eclipse, or volcanic ash clouds
  • Just watched Heat. LOVED it!
  • Birdman. Absolutely brilliant.

  • Dracula Untold. Not absolutely brilliant, but I still enjoyed it. Anything with dark castles and angry men in armor is worth a buck fifty. Plus, the graphics were a load of fun.

Waiting to see The Babadook on Blissmiss day.

  • Movies rarely frighten me. It's all about ambiance.

  • Finished watching Midnight Cowboy just now. Hated it. Barry did a great job though.
