John Grant
  • Live session on 6 Music now (12:20pm Fri 3 Oct). Sounds pretty awesome.

Oh, they're flipping in-and-out of the live show, but it will be broadcast in full tonight at 7:30pm apparently :-)

  • I'm recording it and saving it for later as I'm going to see him, backed by the Royal Northern Sinfonia, in Edinburgh next month.

Caught the two tracks on the Radcliffe & Maconie show and they sounded mighty. They really whet the appetite for the gig.
  • John Grant is coming back this October with Grey Tickles, Black Pressure, which is the direct translation for the Icelandic words for "mid life crisis" and Turkish for "nightmare".

  • I have tickets for his Apollo date. #excited ! I wonder if he may have a special guest join him on stage?

  • Well, we saw John Grant last night and his gig was fantastic. He is humble and, at the same time, exuberant. Self effacing and genuinely appreciative of his fans, and they love hi in return. The band is full of great performers; none more so than Budgie, the legendary drummer from Siousxie and the Banshees and The Creatures and one of only a handful of drummers to perform wearing gloves.
Great songs, great voice; a deep, rich baritone, and a great atmosphere. If you get the chance, catch John in concert, if only for the massive workout your body will get from some devestating sub-bass!
This is his latest video. I have a feeling @iuventus, at least, will enjoy this !

Yes, it's clever. And not half cliche, but in a humorous way. And you know I love Grant. Still trying to get into the latest release though.
If I were dead, could I do this?

GTBP is not as immediate a PGG, which is when I hopped on the Grant bus. I like his videos and his music for the uncomplicated honesty of them. The vid for GMF is funny and charming at the same time and I find John's honesty in his lyrics refreshing. It was a good gig. The band were tight and their interpretation of the songs at times dramatic. Unfortunately, I was so close to the front that I was in touching distance of the security, so did not feel comfortable in keeping the camera up to my eye for an entire song (especially as the Hammersmith Apollo is plastered with signs saying 'No recording or Photography). I did sneak about 30 pics though and will post a link to the album on my Flickr page later.
