The Hawker Fury was a sleek-looking British biplane fighter of the 1930s. My first thought was to post "Billy". (Does everyone remember Billy Fury? In the 1960s, I owned his "Fools' Errand" as a 45 -- I don't mean to boast, but I did.) But I scrapped "Billy" because I recently posted "Billies" on this thread, and thought that "Billy" would have us going round in circles.
The lyric of "Fools' Errand" goes:
Did my my heart send me on a fools' errand when it sent me after you
I once had a mondegreen of this that went:
Did my my heart send me on a fools' errand on a Saturday afternoon
Actually, to fit the tune, more "Sat'day afternoon" than "Saturday afternoon".
Of course, it might have been on a Saturday afternoon that his heart sent him after the person in question.
I wonder whether this is the longest post in this thread. Most of them seem to be a lot shorter.
The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ. Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit. Shall lure it back to cancal half a line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
