What a great name for a band!
  • Hi
While on a different thread, Valerian said he went to see Sheep on Drugs last night. That reminded me of a game we used to play coming up with random names for bands. Not actually making up names as such, but picking up on random collections of words that present themselves naturally. A recent example was while having some work carried out on our sewage treatment plant and finding out it had a section called a Scum Baffle. Mrs U.T said, 'they're playing at the Dublin Castle tonight, you've gotta respect what they're doing' ! Scum Baffle would obviously be a thrash metal outfit.
Today, it was Badgers Helmets, who would be Post Punk revival. It could just be us but it is funnier if they are naturally occurring phrases.
Give it a go and see what we get. Try to think of Jools introducing them on Later. ' And now, over here, Badgers (pause) Helmets !

  • ^ hi, whilst I posted last night, the Sheep on Drugs gig was actually in about '93 ish!
Anyway I would offer up 'Steven and the Twins' as a proto band name, made popular by Ian Beale in Eastenders as his oft reference to his kids, I believe it is now a common reference for ones gentleman's parts ...

A great start. Mrs UT likes Steven and the Twins, obviously the same genre as Anthony and the Johnsons.
Pleased that at least someone has understood what the hell I was on about. Who knows, one day a GMBer starting a band and will look at this thread and think 'what a great name .... Is. And we can sit back and think, that was us !

Hey,I can't help that I was brought up proper like and use correct grammer! That comment is funnier than you realise as if anyone can get you anti biotics, it is Mrs UT. After the incident with the scum baffle, I think I am immune to everything. Like the sort of glow the Ready Brek kids had around them if you can remember that.

And there was I thinking you may be about to ask how we got to Badgers Helmets !

  • Today's proto band is The Cloacas, pronounced 'klow ackers'.
A cloaca, as anyone who keeps chickens will tell you, is the opening through which an egg appears. Fish, reptiles, birds and some primitive mammals do not have separate orifices for the removal of waste products or for reproductive purposes; they just multi task with the one. In this way, think of the cloaca as a chicken fanny/arse.
This would obviously ideally position The Cloacas to be the support on the next Justin Bieber (insert your own band name here) tour

The latest offering is 'The Cycloptic Wolves'.  These bad boys are Indie/garage rock.  They even come with a logo !

That sounds more like a specialist service available at your local bordello or what Watson may have unfortunately got his hands on when he found Mrs Watson was actually a transvestite.
Bunny Mother. Sounds a bit heavy metal.
