  • I just got home and feeling really poorly with a stinking cold but was worth every minute! Had a great view as 2 empty seats in front :)
Was an odd crowd, I was part of the little gang that did stand up and dance but was shocked at people still sitting for Strict Machine! The woman behind us even nodded off at one point!

Great to meet Giancarlo again and Alex_F and ModeDevotion.

Am off to bed to die now...sooooo glad I booked tmrw off
  • Yeah, I'm unimpressed in general:
    - audiences -> see above; I stood like a moron in the mist
    - two drunk girls next to me started talking very loudly during Thea about how they don't like that song; I literally had to tell them to shut the fuck up
    - Colston hall has tiny seats which are the most uncomfortable I've ever sat in; it also has full-on photo camera nazis (I didn't try to make any photos, but boy they were active around us)

    Luckily the band delivered ;-)

Why does everyone complain so much about seated audiences? I prefer sitting at shows. In fact, I get a little bothered if those in front of me stand, and I can't see.

Because it's a sacrilege! And because Alison tells people to dance :)

But seriously, unless you are very old or/and weak, who wouldn't want to move during Train or Strict Machine?

Although I do remember hating to stand-up when I was 11 stones heavier in 2010, but a lot of bear seem to dance quite happily!

  • ^ hmm, you know you can't upload a picture directly to the forum? It needs to be somewhere else already. I put some instructions in the FAQ. :-)

I'm not a religious person in any way. Maybe that explains my befuddlement.

I don't remember her telling us to dance in NYC, but maybe I missed it. If I wanted to dance, I'd go to a dance club. I like to watch and listen intently when attending any sort of concert. Not that my toes don't tap along to a groovy tune, even to a Beethoven symphony.
If I were dead, could I do this?
  • another wonderful gig,

little bird.... i think i saw what i assumed was you!? but didn't really get the chance to say anything.
sat with whisper it, layla and spike which was lovely, and waved at giancarlo :)

i was surprised at the lack of standing up too alex, i assumed they all liked the way the bass was vibrating through the chairs and making their bums feel funny...?
  • I gotta tell you, of the 8 concerts of theirs I've seen over the years, it was the best I have ever seen them.  Everything was spot on.  And whilst I really like TOS it's not my favourite; I much prefer 7Tree but this album came to life live!!! Wow!!!!!!!

I was dancing like a mad-man as soon as No1 finished. I was in the front row and turned around every now and then and I reckon a 10th of the audience danced at the very most which is a shame.

Here are some of my photos (they're not great as they're from my mobile but not awful at least).

  • This was the 4th time that I have seen Goldfrapp and they just get better every time.
The Tales of Us album is just mind blowing preformed live (excuse the cliché) but I had tears in my eyes for the first half of the set.
    JUST FUCKING AWESOME
The only downside to the evening was I never had £25 on me to buy a signed poster after the gig.
  • A few more pix...

Ahhh you should have said hello :) I was sat 3 seats away from Giancarlo in Row D, were you nearer the front? Much more polished performance than Birmingham and Alison seems to have settled into it a bit more.
  • singing and playing both much more polished and relaxed than in Brum.

Normally, GF live seem strict about getting very close to their record sound. Even the "extended live versions" of songs like Little Bird are quite stereotyped.

But this time there was a hint of enterprise in some sections - for instance, the voice distortion on "Lovely Head" seemed more bubbly than I've heard it before.

Wish they would do more of that.

Dance-wise, I would give much kudos to the bloke in the red T at the front near Angie, who was dancing away on his tod for a long time (was that you, Howiet?). Also to the two women on the opposite corner, in front of me, who got up and started dancing before anyone else. They were good, too!

These were the loud talkers who ruined Thea for me. They were really really drunk.

I was towards the end of row A (seat 27) right in front of Angie in white tee-shirt with blue flowers flinging myself around. (And yeah, kudos to the guy in red on his own).
