  • I loved your vids from Manchester, UT.
  • None from Manchester Turqs. Are you thinking of the RAH London?

  • Yes, I always mess them up.
  • Most watched ones I have done so far. Some Velvet Morning has gone through 9,000 views now.

  • You had really great spot for filming.
  • Interestingly, bands can get too big in my opinion and it all changes. I like U2 but they are so huge that you feel they are not your band anymore but they belong to everyone. I want GF to be successful and continue making superb music but I like the fact that they are our band; almost our secret, and if they got massive, that would change. I doubt we would be on here with all this witty banter!

I kind of agree here. As much as i want them to make BILLIONS from the new album - i don't want them to reach global stardom and create a new wave of bloody "hipster superfans" i quite like our small collective we have here. bit like a sunday afternoon gathering at church with tea and biscuits sans all the religious stuff and more tea and biscuits... and cake.
  • I think they are going to be huge this time and I am comforted by the fact that they will certainly still keep this messageboard.  How many people are allowed to join will be up to the current members.  I'm not really concerned.  It has to be a pretty serious fan to find their way into here.
  • I'd be very surprised if they ever make it huge again - not a comment on Goldfrapp's ability as let's face it, they're masters in their craft by this stage - but more on modern music.
Trying my best not to sound like an out of touch hipster type but honestly, have you heard what's big selling these days? It's shite. It all sounds the same. Nothing remotely different makes any waves in popular culture anymore. I used to complain back in like 2010 and it wasn't nearly as bad then.

Long story short, if Goldfrapp can somehow make their way back into the public eye, and actually make a success of it... well, it'd be nothing short of an huge achievement.

  • ^Yes - I think the media, social or otherwise, are too addicted to novelty and money values for anything that GF does now to generate much of a stir. They could create the greatest musical masterpiece of all time but if it doesn't include a scandalous reference to this morning's Instagram trend, and have a easily monetised spinoff it will not penetrate the dulled consciousness of the public.

We have to make our communities outside of these values, and the GMB is a somewhat alternative community. It would be good to make it more accessible, though.

You hit the nail on the hilariously depressing head. If we were going through a musical renaissance then there might be a chance, but we are most certainly not. We're going through... whatever the opposite of a renaissance is.

Honestly unless she's dabbing with Harambe on the front cover then there's not much of a chance.

  • We'll see.  I guess it depends somewhat on your definition of huge.  And, yes, I made the mistake of turning on the radio a few years ago and every female vocal artist sounded like a clone of Adele.  Same was the of the men, also, I just can't remember what they sounded like.

But, I think Goldfrapp is positioning themselves very well this time to be bigger than they ever have been before.

I will admit that I am the utter optimist always, no holds barred.
  • I fully agree here. I simply wish them a financially secure future with the ability to create whatever they wish, be it a film or music project. Alison and Will's creative abilities are unrivalled in many aspects. Her photography alone... my God. They need to publish books of her work. It's pure genius.

I suppose I'm more concerned of their well-being than anything else. I mean, we can't pretend that the economy is very bright or prosperous. With all the auto-tuned half-plastic slaves of commercialism pumping out manufactured hit after manufactured hit with seven "writers" tied to each of them all trying to find witty rhymes to "baby" and "sexy" coupled with the widespread acceptance of the brainwashed general public for this kind of garbage, I worry due to the chunk of the market this kind of music occupies.

In the end, I really just want Alison, Will and the rest of the gang to be safe, happy and financially secure, capable of doing what makes them happy. That's all that matters. To me, it feels like "making it big" in some capacity a la Supernature would help in that regard, but I could be wrong. I suppose I worry more these days because of the state of the industry and economy.

    We'll see what happens.

There is more to life in music than being huge. Musical credibility is far more important in my opinion, but I am a great believer in the fact that quality will out!
