I hope you guys in America know what the proposed policies are on both sides? All we see over the pond are the bitch slapping juicy bits. Please tell me there's more...substance.

From my ivory tower (in Europe) both sides are bad
I take the needle off the Technics and put it in my vein
  • More exactly, all governments are bad.  Their processes become broken quickly.  If  there is any government in the world that is less than, say, 50 years old, it probably has a chance of not being totally corrupted to support those in power.  As the saying goes, what's the difference between socialism and democracy?  In socialism, it's people taking advantage of people.  In democracy, it's just the opposite.
  • Usually it's "what's the difference between socialism and capitalism" On that basis one guy from Scandinavia (Finland?) expressed surprise why people in Baltics, etc want to leave Soviet Union and live like in Scandinavia. After all both governments are bad

  • I always get confused between what is a form of government and what is a form of economy.  Socialism is a form of government, right?  Capitalism is surely a form of economy and, if all of those with gobs of capital and no morals had their way, government would certainly have nothing to do with the economy.  We are, once again, globally (at least the western influenced world), swinging more and more towards those with gobs of money and no morals having their way.  Greed and avarice and stupidity are beginning to rule the day, once again.  And, anyone with honor and integrity to rue the day.  The pendulum swings...
  • So who's going to start the Revolution? Seriously..? Who?

  • Well I guess the people voting for Trump are wanting to start a kind of a revolution. A new Dark Age beckons....
  • So, tell me, what is so bad about Brexit?

An interesting thing about dark or crazy times is that is when Britain seems especially sane.

You'll have to make a case for what's good about it first. It'll take a lot less time.

The Brexit vote was another demonstration that people make decisions based on inchoate emotions, not rational calculation. The fact that violent attacks on people perceive as "immigrants" increased hugely following the "out" vote was a telling sign that for many, it was a way of legitimising hate feelings against "out groups", rather than some principled political stand.

This is also why Trump will win.
  • Yeah, I guess I heard that link before about immigration and Brexit.  I guess I was thinking more of the financial aspect, which I thought was the main reason for the exit.

I think, if Trump wins, it is because of the completely underhanded way in which the Republicans conduct themselves.
  • Correct WW.

  • Besides being afraid of a one-size fits all interest rate..there's the derivatives market bubble. Will the bank tank? Asshole Trump has alluded to it..and if anyone, he would know. (???)

  • It sure seems like the we are, once again, entering a time of the "crazies" (technical term).  Santayana really had it all wrong.  Recognizing it is not enough, not nearly enough.
