For the last week, and the remains of this one, our local has been rural France, about 70 miles to the East of Bordeaux near Bergerac. This is one of the principal wine growing regions of the world and one of a number of hotspots for this; think of them as Viniculture ground zero, is St Émilion. The first vines here were planted by the Romans and the town in named after a travelling Monk Confessor (later Canonised) Émilion in the 8th Century. It produces some of the most acclaimed red wines in the world. We have visited here annually for many years on our own pilgramige in a way.

A regular stop is the Maison du Vin. There are two Pemier Grand Cru Classe A at the top of the tree here, Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau Ausone. Found this bottle of Ausone on sale in the M d V from 2002. That's over $1,200 or £770 per bottle if anyone is interested. Too rich for my blood !

The place is heavily Arts and Crafts in amongst the wines and there are exhibitions everywhere. There's an 11th Century Church and they have exhibition in the cloisters there as well. Found this interesting depiction of the 4 Horsemen of the Apocolypse in here, which I thought was a good choice of subject matter for the setting.

The Son Illuminairé on the Cathedral at Chartes is quite breathtaking. It is designed by the same people who did the light show on Buckingham Palace on the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Look at these photos that show one of the gates during the day, and then again at night. Amazing. Well worth a visit.

Ah, Copenhagen. Much like I remember it. The Tivoli Gardens, the nice Danish folk (especially the girls !), pastries, no Goldfrapp concert. Yep, just like last year !
