  • Hey fellow Frappers. The Appy's and UT (Mrs T's on a Eurovision Week-ender with her alternatively orientated Gentleman friends) have booked tickets to see Mara Carlyle at Richmix in Shoreditch on the 22nd May. Tickets only £15 and all for a great cause so any London locality based people fancy coming along as well with a drink beforehand? Link below.

  • As posted in the upcoming gigs thread, Mara was superb on Friday. Her set was 17 songs long and the best part of two hours long. She played a mix of her own stuff and some covers with a typical Mara twist like the Robert Palmer one posted elsewhere. She is a classically trained musician and it shows, but she is wexpanding that genre to make some really interesting music. We met afterwards and she signed a gig poster for me and has obviously formed the opinion I am a crazy bugger. No idea where she has got that from :)

  • Mara is a massive supporter of homeless charities and frequently does appearances to promote a cause obviously close to her heart. Here is a vid of her performing Bowlface en Provence at a homeless charity event for New Horizons at St Pancras Parish Church in London.
On Friday night, Mara was supported by Laura Moody, with her cello, George on whom she played some very avant garde music. George is 250 years old and probably doesn't know what's hit him !
Here, in this vid, the young lady sitting closest to Mara playing the cello is Laura, except here, George is putting in a more regular turn !

  • Tower Hamlets council, are putting RichMix at Shoreditch under threat of closure over the repayment of a loan of £850k from 12 years ago. Rich Mix is an East London’s independent cultural arts venue that depends on funding from the Arts Council and local authorities to continue the important community work it provides. They have offered to repay the loan over a reasonable timescale, but Tower Hamlets are asking for it to be repaid in one lump sum.
A petition has been raised because the venue is under real threat of closure by London Borough of Tower Hamlets. They need your help to tell Tower Hamlets just how important Rich Mix is to the local community, audiences and artists alike.
Please sign the petition. You can do this easily on line by following this link.

  • A nice, if somewhat sesquipedalian ( couldn't resist) review from The Prickle of last Friday's Mara Carlyle gig at RichMix, Shoreditch, London.

  • Remember George, Laura Moody's venerable and cherished cello? Here's what he gets up to when he not being a regular classical cello !

  • A question I have asked before but no-one has ever answered:  Can you see YouTube vids we post out of the UK?

It's not so much what country a snap is from as what the restrictions are on it.  This one is viewable.

  • Mara Carlyle is back at the Royal Albert Hall next March as part of their classical series with the London Contemporary Orchestra. This time, they are playing underground in the RAH atmospheric loading dock.
You may remember the last time she was there, it was supporting the Frapp at their RAH gig. Really liked her and she was easy to chat to in the interval before you know who came on with special surprise guest John Grant!
    Just booked tickets.

  • Went to see this yesterday afternoon. Mara was supporting the London Contemporary Orchestra and did about 6 songs at the start supported by Liam Byrne on the Viola de Gamba. Met her again afterwards and Appy and I had a chat with her.
The venue was strange. It was held in the loading dock under the Royal Albert Hall, so we got to see some usually unseen areas of the RAH. The walls have huge murals of performers and other famous people who have graced the RAH over its history. Click the link below for more info and pics.
