There was a time when Goldfrapp never seemed to perform without big electric fans on stage. But they don't have them any more, do they? I'm not sure when Goldfrapp first took to the stage without fans. I didn't notice at the time, and only tonight has it occurred to me to wonder...
I know they were there up until at least the Supernature tour and I think (it's early and I'm yet to have my first cuppa) that they were also around on the Head First / Hits tour too?
Maybe (in many ways) the newer stuff needs less bluster?
A million fires before your harvest comes. To burn out. Wear the mask of a heathen. For the moon's lonely eyes.
How observant, Pet. Yes, they definitely had them during Head First at the two gigs I saw. I always loved the rather low tech drama they brought. Maybe they can turn them on only for the uptempo numbers.
Weren't the fans on stage at Somerset last year too? I can vaguely remember seeing them either there or in Amsterdam a few months later but there was something wrong with them..?
I think the fans are not that prominent for non-summer gigs or venues with decent aircon ;-)
But I definitely saw them last year: MIF, Somerset House, and at least one of the continental gigs (where one of the fans malfunctioned and started buzzing loudly enough to be heard).
I heard a rumour that Alison nowadays sports a pair of iFans - mounted behind each armpit. And I'd imagine a theremin would have available an add-on... in order to provide "downstairs ventilation"? *
