I think they only ever talked about a few of them for this album sadly. I'm sure Pilots was inspired by John Barry/James Bond films, Utopia about something sciencey, but that's it I think. Did anyone save Alison's tweets from 2012 about the singles collection, where she discussed the songs? Might be helpful....

Utopia is about a book Alison read, the song talks about a robot that suddenly falls in love and it's very confussing feeling and doesn't quite know how to react to it so it goes a bit violent...

Solaris was the inspiration for Sartorius, wasn't it? I'm sure there's a sequence of little i-tune clips in which Alison explains a bunch of songs somewhere - possibly co-inciding with the release of The Singles????

I think with those they just discussed recording them, not the inspirations sadly.
Human was an old song Alison had if I remember correctly, and had it as her voicemail message before her and Will met.
There was a promo interview disc for FM like with BC, where I imagine they discussed the songs/albums. But it's never leaked/shared etc so I'm not sure what's on it..... -
I'm glad you posted those @ping I think as much as they don't discuss the inspirations is fun to know all of those details, I love making ofs.
