To be honest, I'm a bit surprised that he didn't die years ago. If someone had asked me yesterday whether Lou Reed was still alive, I'd probably have replied: "No, he can't be. @Pet Yeah and No. I was aware Lou Reed was alive and I hadn't been aware of his health problems, though I am admittedly not surprised he had them, it doesn't make it any less sad for me though. I've known people to die a lot younger than 71, but it's always sad to see the passing of a legend.
I shall be giving some Lou Reed tracks a spin in the coming days that's for sure

Me, too. In fact, I feel sure that all the people I knew in the 1970s, who were shooting up junk, will be dead by now. Some of them didn't make it to the mid 70s. To be honest, I feel sorrier for people I actually knew.My website: http://petjeffery.co.uk/

That's always true we are bound to feel more towards those we know (presuming we like them that is). I'm sure Lou Reed will have left behind loved ones who will be grieving a personal loss though.

I suppose there is something in the fact the Velvets track 'Heroin' was
recorded almost 50 years ago and Lou Reed outlived Sid Vicious by 50
years. The Velvet Underground were very influential to punk, and I heard
Lou Reed being described as one of the 'godfathers' of punk on the news
last night, I can't disagree there.
I'm not a massive fan of every record Lou Reed put his name to but there are a fair few I would describe as essential. RIP LOU
