We drove up to the top of Haleakalā, the volcano that towers over the lower part of Maui. It's 10,000 feet above sea level at the top (2 miles). Along the way, you drive through some pretty dramatic scenery; some sheer drops off the side and through the cloud layer at between 5 and 7,000 feet until you pop out above. Had the IPod on shuffle as we went along and it came up with several very appropriate songs. One was Vertigo from U2, the other was this one; Song from the edge of the world - Siouxsie and the Banshees.
The view from the top is spectacular. You can fit the whole of Manhatten Island in that crater !

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ. Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit. Shall lure it back to cancal half a line, Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.
For some reason, this image made me think of Slippage !
