Re: Utopia, I certainly don't think it's about ability. She could clearly still sing that opening passage if she wanted to. Perhaps it's more about changing things up. You could argue that by saving the big operatic guns for the en…

Sartori! Thanks for coming thru on Utopia. Those of us outside the UK are prob especially appreciative! Looking forward to seeing whatever else you've been able to capture. So, does Alison no longer sing the operatic opening to "Utopia&q…

'Tales of us' Deluxe (new release - 30 June 2014)
Yes, must say, I'm glad that Alison & Will can make a decent living, but it does feel a bit like they're taking advantage of their fans. I mean, let's face it, at this point, who else but superfans are going to be buying deluxe v…

Has anyone heard if Goldfrapp will be performing live in America?
If Goldfrapp and Mute/EMI could afford to tour the US for every single one of their prior albums - even a small tour for Head First - the fact that a US tour probably isn't happening now is really disappointing. I wonder if departing EMI for t…

That was marvelous. Little Bird was - forgive me - epic. Well, it was. What's the new drummer's name? He's sensational. I hope he sticks around for the next Goldfrapp period - especially since the band appears to have no interest…

That's a good point, Urban. Though I will say, I had the chance to catch Goldfrapp in the UK once and the crowd response was far more muted than each of the 8 or 9 times I've seen them in Southern California or NY. She's also commen…

Has Alison said anything regarding North America on Twitter? I'm starting to think this will be the first Goldfrapp album without a US or Canada tour -- if you discount the one-off NY show from last year. It's a shame that they can'…

Ha! Got it. I love Alison's "bat" outfits. That being said, would be interesting to see her wearing something a little less... double-double-toil-and-trouble in the future. I thought that gorgeous white suit from the Cinema conce…

Amy's death still makes me sad. If you haven't seen it before, I highly recommend checking out her appearance on Never Mind the Buzzcocks. Her appearance showcases not only her wickedly sharp sense of humor, but also her very sweet, kind…

Thanks for the Line of Duty rec -- will definitely keep an eye out for that one. @VisualFallacy - that's me with Boardwalk Empire. I almost always love everything HBO produces. And, on paper, that show had everything going for it -- product…

Well, you should probably take my advice with a grain of salt, then, as I think Mad Men may be the finest dramatic television series of all time. Fair warning about Damages -- first couple (2 or 3) seasons are very strong, but it gets ridiculously…

I am amazed that a show as good as The Good Wife airs on network tv in the US (as opposed to a cable network where nearly all the quality dramas are produced). It's definitely the best network tv drama in the US since the beautiful Friday Nigh…

What a tame little thread. You're all quite restrained, I must say. Bravo. May I bring up an obvious candidate? Mr. Jamie Dornan, the gifted, brooding Irish actor who is almost preternaturally beautiful. In fact, I must say that the produce…

I loved that interview. It didn't feel like a complete retread of everything we've read before and Alison actually seemed to enjoy it. Well done on the scanning, Ping.

Oops. I don't know what I did with my comment up there^. But, anyway. Wow. Everything about that is perfect. The vocals, the band, and, yes, the look. She looks so effortlessly elegant there. Eat your heart out, Marlene Dietrich.

Kate Bush - Before the Dawn (was the spoiler-free thread)
To be fair to "young people" there was a huge gap in her releases from the early 90s until the mid 2000s. And, of course, her cultural impact had waned by then so it's quite understandable that some people could have grown up without…

What are you listening to now?
Really digging Neneh Cherry's new album. The stark, funky production by Four Tet is a wonderful frame to hang her still intoxicating voice upon. This woman is operating on her own wavelength, God love her.

Whatever happened to the Goldfrapp fans?
How observant, Pet. Yes, they definitely had them during Head First at the two gigs I saw. I always loved the rather low tech drama they brought. Maybe they can turn them on only for the uptempo numbers.
